O vento mudou

"O vento mudou" ("The wind changed") was the Portuguese entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1967, performed in Portuguese by Eduardo Nascimento. Eduardo Nacimento released an English version of this song entitled "Listening".
The song is in the ''chanson'' style, popular in the early years of the contest. Nascimento sings about a former lover, who told him that she was going to see the world, promising to return if the wind changed. He explains that the wind ''did'' change, but that it did not bring her expected return. He asks the wind to bring her back to him, however he also asks the clouds to cover his pain as he feels that he will die without her.
The song was performed fifth on the night, following France's Noëlle Cordier with "Il doit faire beau là-bas" and preceding Switzerland's Géraldine with "Quel cœur vas-tu briser?". At the close of voting, it had received 3 points, placing 12th in a field of 17. Nascimento was the first black male performer at Eurovision, the year after Milly Scott from the Netherlands became the first black female to sing.
It was succeeded as Portuguese representative at the 1968 contest by Carlos Mendes with "Verão".
